A new article about our family.  This one is unusual because it is in a non traditional source.

This magazine is owned by EA arts .. the game people..  Its an international autosports  publication with over a million readers a month.

we were interviewed on SKYPE from the writer who was in Japan.

A couple of errors, but who's complaining!

Welcome to the IHRA guys. Your gonna love it!

  • Notice!  We WILL not be hosting our famous MFR year end wrap up this fall.  Do situations out of our control, we just don't have the time to pull it off this year. We are planning  however, to have the best big wrap up ever in the fall of 2011.

  • Help!  We  need storage space for 2 funny car bodies from November through Jan or Feb.  We don't need a heated shop, ( it would be nice!) even a barn is ok, as long as the bodies are out of the elements and safe.  let us know  jay@nitrofunnycar.ca
  •  Check out this great shot by Dean Murdoch of Speedzone Magazine. This was Prospector VS Trevor Lowe rnd 1. Click the photo to go to Deans coverage

The times are a changing.......

Web site changes

It's been a long time since I have done anything with our web site. Earlier this year, I decided to concentrate on maintaining a Facebook team page because as my kids told me - its the leading social network. I have had a few -- but not many - complaints the web site wasn't kept up- but I think were going to do both a brief Facebook thing for 2010, and use the teams web site for more in depth information .  Dean over at Speedzone Magazine mentioned to me that there are still a whole bunch of people who are not up to speed with the Facebook thing, and I am going to heed his advice. So we are going to get this site up and running again. I am going to kill off the www.fuelaltered.ca site, as it seems redundant to have 2 sites. The fuel altered site for can still be accessed through this site in the future. As time goes on, we may change the format of this site to make it more modern, but it will stay as is for the time being.  As always, your input is always welcomed.

Team changes

Our crew chief and partner Bob Mageau (and Jays dad), has decided to retire. After 50 years as a player in our sport we think he certainly has earned the rite to step back and just try and enjoy life as it comes. Bob built and owned his own cars from the 60's to the 80's.  Bob instilled the love for our sport in Jay at an early age and helped him get going in the early 80's as a driver .. some 30 years ago. Bob then  retired  around '83 but after  many years away,  came back to help get Jay started into pro racing and feature cars in the early 90's. Although I think he wanted to just come back for a just few years, he ended up unretired for another 15 years.  He guided the team from super comp all the way to nitro funny car a few years back.

Jay has made a commitment to continue to run the team with the support and help of his wife Theresa for the  next few years  and then we will re-evaluate the situation.  All of the teams sponsors and crew are aware of the changes and have pledged continued support into the future.

I'd like to personally thank my Pop's for teaching me the sport I love so much, and giving me the knowledge and drive to get where I am and where I am going to go.   The same love of sport and racing has also been passed on to your grand daughter Courtney.   I have been privileged to share some great times with my Pop's , and man we did some winning together.  We are sad to see Pops go ( most of the crew guys called him Pop's ) but we all wish him happiness in retirement and remember our pit area will always be open to you. The cooler will be full of cold ones too.

Other Changes

For the last many years, besides sponsorship and winnings, one of our sources of revenue has been our fabled year end wrap up party.  Due to several factors, we are unable to have a party this year. We will be working hard to try and replace the missing income over the winter, and will be hosting the wrap up party again in fall 2011.

The team as invested in a new ( to us)  truck to haul the cars around. The new truck is called a "toterhome"  Basically a big semi truck with a big camper grafted to it. It will allow us safer , more efficient travel , and serve as a headquarters for the team when we are on the road.  The truck is a kenworth T600 and has a Cat engine with a 10 speed trans. The camper is a NRC and sleeps 6 while giving the ladies of the team a place to escape and have there own bathroom.

The unit is older and requires some TLC , but that's what we do best.

Work continues as the crew prepares for the upcoming season.  Today the boys inspected 2 of the bodies and did some rear end work.  The two nitro "Hemi's" are slowly coming together as well.

Now is the time to contact us about sponsoring the team and doing some marketing magic for your company! We need you and have some great opportunities available

We currently have one opening on the crew.  We are looking for somebody with experience in nitro , nostalgia nitro, AA/Gas,  top alcohol or pro mod.  Experience around race engines ( hemi) and or clutches/ lencos and asset. We plan to run 6 - 8 events this summer around the div 6 area.  The new crewmember should be from the greater Edmonton region.  We work one night a week  and the odd Sunday during the off season, then one night a week and race weekends in the summer.
The new member must be committed,  a team player, positive, like hard work, and love our sport.
We cover travel expenses, race entry etc.  No salary. We do this for the love of the sport!

If you love nitro, like to work hard with a fun natured team, like the odd beer with the boys, email us.  jay@nitrofunnycar.ca

We have a great core group of guys, just need one more to round us out!
